The Tuscarawas SWCD is holding it’s second photo contest and we want your pictures. This year we would like to see your creative ideas for “Colorful Conservation”. This contest is for AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHERS ONLY. The photo must be taken in Tuscarawas County and must be original work of the applicant. 2010 Farm Day Saturday, August 7, 2010
It’s time to experience a day on the farm with your family! The annual Farm Day will be held Saturday, August 7th from 12pm – 5pm. Our hosts will be the Mutti Family Dairy Farm located at 3326 Stonecreek Rd SW, Stone Creek, OH. The ever popular milking demonstration will be held at 4pm at the milking parlor. Numerous other children’s activities will be on site including a Kiddie Tractor Pull, Face Painting, All-A-Flutter Butterfly Exhibit, and an Archery Activity. There will be a food stand provided by the Milk Makers 4-H Club and ice cream from Miller’s Creamery. Educational displays will include Tuscarawas County Beekeepers and Sugarcreek Veterinarian Clinic. Several vendors from the Tuscarawas Valley Farmer’s Market will have stands with food products available for purchase.
The Farm Day Committee is comprised of representatives from the following agencies: Farm Service Agency, Farm Credit Services, OSU Extension, Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District and Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau. Our goal is to showcase agriculture and the families that make it all happen. We strive to connect farmers with the public and provide a personal experience for learning and fellowship. 2010 Tuscarawas SWCD Scholarship
Applications must be received by 4:00pm on April 26, 2010
The Tuscarawas Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce that it is offering a $500 scholarship to assist graduating seniors with the pursuit of a college, university or technical school degree. The applicant must be a Tuscarawas County resident or graduating from a Tuscarawas County High School. Applicants for the scholarship need to be pursuing a degree in the fields of Agriculture or Conservation of Natural Resources. Examples of some eligible degrees include Ag Engineering, Aquatic Ecology, Biological Sciences, Conservation Planning, Environmental Science, Forestry, Soils, Turf or Wildlife management.

Applications can also be picked up at the Tuscarawas SWCD office at 277-B Canal Ave. SE, New Philadelphia between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Check in your high school guidance office for an application . The deadline for application submission is April 26, 2010. All applications will be reviewed by a committee. The top three applicants will be interviewed by the committee prior to final selection.

Forestry and Wildlife Camp Scholarship

Ohio Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Camp will be held June 13 – 18, 2010 at FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake in Carroll County. This camp provides hands-on learning and understanding on subjects such as forest ecology, dendrology, silviculture, and wildlife management. The camp is open to all students who are at least 15 years old and have completed the 8th grade. The Tuscarawas SWCD is offering one $250 scholarship to students who meet the eligibility requirements. Click on the Links below for more information. 2010 Stewardship Poster Contest
Entries must be received by 4:00pm on May 28, 2010
It's time for the 2010 Stewardship Poster contest. This event is a qualifier for the poster contest to be held by the Ohio Federation of Conservation Districts. The winner at the state level will be competing in the National Association of Conservation Districts’ (NACD) Stewardship Poster Contest.
The theme for the 2010 Tuscarawas SWCD poster contest is “Healthy Habits = Healthy Habitats” in coordination with the National Stewardship Week theme for the upcoming year. Additional resources can be found at the NACD Stewardship Week website. Educator’s Guides are also available through the NACD.
The Tuscarawas SWCD Stewardship Poster Contest is open to all fifth grade students living in Tuscarawas County. The first place winner will be awarded a $100 US Savings Bond and the winning poster will be entered into the contest held by the Ohio Federation of Conservation Districts. The artist of the second place poster will receive a $50 US Savings Bond. Community Agriculture Appreciation Breakfast Friday - March 19, 2010 - 7:00am to 11:00am The breakfast will be held at Brandywine Center located on Old State Route 39 in Dover, OH. Please join us to celebrate National Agriculture Week (March 14 - March 20, 2010). Enjoy all-you-can-eat scrambled eggs, pancakes and ham for $5 per person. Spring Pond Clinic Thursday, June 24, 2010
The pond clinic will be held at the Picnic Shelter back Conservation Drive at the Norma Johnson Center located in Dover, OH. Speakers for the evening will include Bill Lynch, OSU Aquatic Ecosystem Management Specialist, Steve Fender, Fenders Fish Hatchery, and Wade Dunlap, ODNR Wildlife Officer. They will be covering a variety of such as Pond Stocking Rates, Vegetation Control & Aeration, and Nuisance Wildlife. Open Discussion & Questions will be held at the end.
