2014 Tuscarawas SWCD Scholarship
Applications must be received by 4:00pm on May 2, 2014
The Tuscarawas Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce that it is offering a $500 scholarship to assist graduating seniors with the pursuit of a college, university or technical school degree. The applicant must be a Tuscarawas County resident or graduating from a Tuscarawas County High School. Applicants for the scholarship need to be pursuing a degree in the fields of Agriculture or Conservation of Natural Resources. Examples of some eligible degrees include Ag Engineering, Aquatic Ecology, Biological Sciences, Conservation Planning, Environmental Science, Forestry, Soils, Turf or Wildlife management.
A link for the application can be found below. Applications can also be picked up at the Tuscarawas SWCD office at 85 E. Iron Ave, Dover OH between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Check in your high school guidance office for an application . The deadline for application submission is May 2, 2014. 2014 Tuscarawas SWCD Poster Contest

The Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District is pleased to annouce its annual poster contest. The theme for the 2014 Tuscarawas SWCD poster contest is "Dig Deeper, Mysteries in the Soil".
The Tuscarawas SWCD Stewardship Poster Contest is open to all Third grade students living in Tuscarawas County. The first place winner will be awarded a $100 US Savings Bond. The artist of the second place poster will receive a $50 US Savings Bond. Anyone interested may contact the Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District office located at 85 E. Promoting Cover Crops through Grant Program

2014 Tuscarawas Soil & Water Conservation District Cover Crop Program Cover crops are a conservation priority, due to the potential of erosion and sediment loading from corn silage and soybean fields. The Tuscarawas SWCD is sponsoring the following program: • Cover Crops • No-till drills are available for rent from Tuscarawas SWCD • 200 acre cap per participant based on a ranking system • $13.00 / acre cost share available • Applications available on our website: www.tuscsoil.com or by calling our office at 330 339-7976. • This program is open to Tuscarawas County participants and acreage must be within Tuscarawas County. • Sign up is now through July 1, 2014. It’s time to experience a day on the farm with your family! The event will be held Friday, June 13 from 5pm – 8:30pm at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia. Numerous children’s activities will be on site including a Kiddie Tractor Pull, Pony rides, Face Painting, All-A-Flutter Butterfly Exhibit, and an Archery Activity. There will be a food stand provided. Educational displays will include Tuscarawas County Beekeepers, Fish Farmers of Ohio, Farm Bureau, Clum Forestry and many others. The committee is comprised of representatives from the following agencies: Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District, Farm Credit, OSU Extension, Agland Co-op, and many community members. Our goal is to showcase agriculture and the families that make it all happen. We strive to connect farmers with the public and provide a personal experience for learning and fellowship. Community Agriculture Appreciation Breakfast
Tuesday - March 25, 2014 - 7:00am to 11:00am
The breakfast will be held at Brandywine Center located on Old State Route 39 in Dover, OH. Please join us to celebrate National Agriculture Week. Enjoy all-you-can-eat breakfast for $5 per person. Proceeds will be used to support our programs. For more information contact us at 330-339-7976.
Spring Pond Clinic

The pond clinic will be held at the Picnic Shelter back Conservation Drive at the Norma Johnson Center located in Dover, OH. Speakers for the evening will include Chris Zoller, OSU Extension Educator, Terry Scott and Dan Kramer, Tuscarawas SWCD, and Wade Dunlap, ODNR Wildlife Officer. They will be covering a variety of such as Pond Stocking Rates, Weed Control, Pond Construction & Design, and Nuisance Wildlife. Open Discussion & Questions will be held at the end.
