Upcoming Events2012 Tuscarawas SWCD ScholarshipApplications must be received by May 4, 2012The Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District is pleased to announce that it is offering a $500. scholarship to assist graduating seniors with the pursuit of a college, university, or technical school degree. The applicant must be a Tuscarawas County resident or graduating from a Tuscarawas County High School. Applicants for the scholarship need to be pursuing a degree in the fields of Agriculture or Conservation of Natural Resources. Examples of some eligible degrees include Ag Engineering, Aquatic Ecology, Biological Sciences, Conservation Planning, Envromental Science, Forestry, Soils, Turf, or Wildlife Management. A link for the application can be found below. Applications can also be picked up at the Tuscarawas SWCD office at 2201 Progress St Ste B, Dover OH 44622 between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. Check in your high school guidance office for an application. The deadline for application submission is May 4, 2012. All applications will be reviewed by a committee. The top three applicants will be interviewed by the committee prior to final selection. The theme for the 2012 Tuscarawas SWCD poster contest is "Soil to Spoon."The Tuscarawas SWCD poster contest is open to all fifth grade students living in Tuscarawas County. The first and second place winners will receive a United States Savings Bonds. The posters will be on display at the Tuscarawas SWCD's booth at the Tuscarawas County Fair. Photo Contest RulesPhoto Contest WINNERS Giving back to the commnunity event for 2011Friday, August 5, 2011 It’s time to experience a day on the farm with your family! The event will be held Friday, August 5th from 5pm – 9pm at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia. Numerous children’s activities will be on site including a Kiddie Tractor Pull, Face Painting, All-A-Flutter Butterfly Exhibit, and an Archery Activity. There will be a food stand provided, all funds raised will be donated to local food banks. Educational displays will include Tuscarawas County Beekeepers, Kent State Veterinarian program, Farm Bureau, and many others. Please read our newsletter for more details The committee is comprised of representatives from the following agencies: Farm Credit Services, Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, OSU extension, Farm Service Agency, and many community members. Our goal is to showcase agriculture and the families that make it all happen. We strive to connect farmers with the public and provide a personal experience for learning and fellowship. For more information please call the Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District at 330-339-7976. 68th Annual MeetingNovember 3, 2011 - 6PM The Tuscarawas SWCD will be hosting their 68th Annual Meeting at the St. John's Church of Christ in Dover, OH (409 N Wooster Ave). The meeting will begin at 5:30PM with the election of Board of Supervisors. A Candlelight Dinner will be at 6:00PM followed by our featured speaker, Wade Dunlap, Tuscarawas County Wildlife Officer and the presentation of awards. Chris Abbuhl, Tuscarawas County Commissioner, will be our emcee for the evening. Tickets are $11 per person (children under 4 eat free) Tickets may be purchased at our office from 7:30-4:00 Monday through Friday.
