2008 LEAP Manure Management - Issues, Challenges & Solutions
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 - The Tuscarawas, Carroll, Harrison, and Jefferson Conservation District's invite you to attend a LEAP Manure Management Workshop. The program aims to educate livestock producers & others who apply manure to crops or farm fields. Topics to be addressed include: manure spreading guidelines, practical manure management planning and implementation, and the protection of water quality. The workshop will be held at the Scio Fire Hall from 12pm - 3pm. Hot lunch will be served at 11:30am for participants who pre-register by January 8, 2008. There is no cost to attend. 2008 North Central Ohio Dairy Grazing Conference
January 24-25, 2008 - The North Central Ohio Dairy Grazing Conference is going to be held at the Fisher Auditorium at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster, OH. The conference theme is "The Key to Making Money is Growing Good Pastures" and is co-sponsored by the following: North Central Ohio Grazing Council, Agroecosystem Management Program, OARDC, and Ohio State University. Registration forms can be picked up at the Tuscarawas SWCD office. Cost of registration is $45 for both days if pre-registered before Janaury 18, 2008. Contractor's Breakfast and Workshop
Tuesday, February, 26, 2008 - Tuscarawas, Coshocton, and Guernsey Soil & Water Conservation Districts are hosting a contractor's breakfast at April's Country Kitchen in Newcomerstown. Registration and breakfast will be from 7:30am to 8:00am. The workshop begins at 8:00am with the following topics: Ponds/Earthen Wall Structures, Basic Construction BMP's, Soil Characteristics, Risks & Safety, Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS), and Open Discussion. There is no registration fee required to attend, but space is limited. The breakfast is $5.99 plus drink and can be paid the morning of the breakfast at April's Country Kitchen (640 Heller Dr, Newcomerstown, OH 43832)

Purchasing Rural Property Workshop CANCELLED
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - For many the American dream is home ownership and for many people, the goal of owning land in rural areas to build that home is growing. There is no question that living in the country has many positive qualities, but it also brings unoque challenges. If you are interested in purchasing land for a home site, you will not want to miss this workshop. The investment you make now may save you thousands in the future. The workshop will include such topics as Suitable Soils, Well/Septic Systems, Mining Issues, Sights, Sounds, & Smells of Living in the Country and where to find more information.

The workshop will be held at Jim's Place (228 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663) from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. To register for this workshop contact Chris Zoller at the OSU Extension office at 330-339-2337. The registration fee is $5.00.



Grazing School
April 14, 21, 28 & May 3 - 7pm to 9pm - A grazing school will be offered at Buckeye Career Center April through May. Topics to be covered include: What is Management Intensive Grazing, Understanding Plant Growth, Fencing, Economics of Grazing, Selecting the Right Forage, Water Systems, Paddock Layout & Design, Designing a Grazing System, and Soils and Soil Fertility. The cost is $35 per farm. To register send your check and the registration form to the OSU Extension office no later April 7, 2008.
